Richard Marion "Rocky" Fields died Saturday June 23, 2007. He was born in Pascagola, Miss., Dec. 11, 1944. Richard was in sales and had lived in Conyers for 10 years. He is survived by his brother, Glynn Fields of Conyers and sister Kamathy Sager of Mohnton, Pa. Richard willed his body to Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Timothy Foley

Timothy Valentine Foley, Jr., 74, of Cleveland, MS, passed away, Wednesday, April, 16, 2014, at his home. A graveside memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at New Cleveland Cemetery with Bro. Barry Dickerson of First United Methodist Church officiating. Ray Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Tim was born August 6, 1939, to Ollean Hatchett Foley and Timothy Valentine Foley in Clarksdale, MS. He married Virginia Carpenter on March 11, 1972, in Cleveland, MS. They celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary in March 2014.

He was a graduate of Mississippi Southern College where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, ROTC, and the Rifle Club. He made life-long friends with many of his fraternity brothers and always enjoyed attending USM Homecoming and "Spring Fling" at Orange Beach, AL with his brothers.

He was commissioned as the 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army upon graduation from college and was honorably discharged as a Captain. He served as Company Commander of the Army Reserve Unit in Clarksdale for several years. Tim was a member of the American Legion Post 165 in Cleveland, MS.

Tim worked in the heating and air-conditioning business and retired from Beverly Health Care, Cleveland in 2001, where he served as maintenance supervisor. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique marine engines and could build and repair anything.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Timothy Valentine and Ollean Hatchett Foley; his brother, Charles Patrick Foley; and his nephew, Timothy Patrick Foley.

Tim is survived by his wife, Virginia Carpenter Foley of Cleveland; sisters, Nancy Foley of Clarksdale, MS and Mary Elizabeth Simpson, (Tom) of New York, NY; brother-in-law, Edwin Carpenter, Jr. (Kay) of Mandeville, LA; and his niece, Meredith Carpenter of Austin, TX.

The family would like to thank Dr. Charlie Brock and his staff at Cleveland Medical Clinic and Dr. Patrick Sewell, Debbie Jennings and the Radiology staff at BMC. A special thank you goes to Jeanette with Grace Hospice for her compassionate care during his final days.

Gant, J. P. Jr. J. P. Gant, Jr., Captain, USAF (Fallen) ? – September 29, 1981 Grants, NM Helicopter Crash, Sep 1981 Posted July 9th, 2010 by Stu Beitler SIX KILLED, ONE MISSING IN MILITARY CRASHES. An Air Force helicopter slammed into a mountain during a combat training mission in New Mexico, killing four of the six crewmen. The HH-53 Air Force helicopter that crashed Tuesday near Grants, N.M., killing four, is known as a “Super Jolly Green Giant” and is similar to those used in the aborted hostage rescue mission in Iran. It crashed at the 6,000-foot level of 11,301-foot Mount Taylor. The two surviving crewmen, burned over 80 percent of their bodies, were in critical condition today. Kirtland Air Force Base officials in Albuquerque said the cause of the crash was not immediately clear but the craft apparently was trying to make a mesa landing. Two men guarded the site of the crashed helicopter, which was on a “low-level combat training mission” until recovery operations resumed today. Killed were: Capt. J. P. GANT, JR., 31, Meridian, Miss., aircraft commander. 2nd Lt. RICHARD J. WENDIN, Fairfield, Conn., pilot. Sgt. TERRY O. CHANCEY, 27, Patterson, Ga., instructor flight engineer. Sgt. James Floyd “Jimmy” Garraway

James Floyd Garraway, Sr.

Hattiesburg, MS - James Floyd Garraway, Sr., 91, died Tuesday, June 11, 2019.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 14, 2019 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with service to follow at 11:30 AM.

Jimmy was born October 17, 1927 to Hugh Pearce Garraway, Sr. and Jessie Hartsock Garraway of New Augusta, MS. After finishing high school in New Augusta, he attended Jones County Junior College for one year. While at JCJC, he was a member of the 1945-1946 Junior College State Championship Basketball team.

He then joined and served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Hattiesburg, MS and enrolled in Mississippi Southern College (now USM). While at Southern, he was one of the charter members of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. It was there (USM) that he met Joy Frost of Hattiesburg and later married her on September 2, 1951. They were married for 62 years until her death on December 5, 2013. After he graduated he was employed by the Mississippi Power Company where he worked for 36 years. During that time he was Auditor and Manager of Customer Services for the Hattiesburg District.

Jimmy was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and belonged to the Hattiesburg Civitan Club where he served as treasurer of the club. He also worked with the club on the Abbie Rogers Camp for children for many years.

Jimmy was one of the original members that started the Westminster Presbyterian Church and served as Treasurer, Deacon and Elder for many years. He was a member of the choir and the Men of the Church and was involved in the operations and activities of the church.

He and his wife, Joy, loved to travel. They traveled to Mexico, Canada and a cruise to the Bahamas. They visited all of the National Parks and interesting cities and points of interest from California to the East Coast. This included Disney World and Branson, MO many times.

Jimmy's many hobbies included his yard work, his garden, being in the Honey Bee business in producing honey for many years and spending time on his land on the Leaf River. He loved to hunt, fish and take pictures of all kinds of wildlife.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Frost Garraway; his parents, Hugh Pearce and Jessie Hartsock Garraway; his brother, Hugh P. Garraway, Jr.; an infant son; and a grandson, Dennis Gregory Garraway, Jr.

He is survived by his two sons, James F. (Jay) Garraway, Jr., his wife, Renee' and Dennis Gregory (Greg) Garraway, his wife, Amy; three grandchildren, Greer Garraway, Kayla Horton (Eric), and James F. (Trey) Garraway, III.

Orin "Scooter" Gill

Lt. Col. Orin Joseph "Scooter" Gill, age 60, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 26, 2008.
A native of Biloxi, Mississippi, Orin was a graduate of Biloxi High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. Orin proudly served his county in the U.S. Army. He especially enjoyed his tours of duty in Korea and the Republic of Panama. Orin earned numerous awards and distinctions during his 23 years of service, to include the Legion of Merit and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Joseph Gill; his maternal grandparents, Orin Joseph and Lela M. (O'Neal) Santa Cruz; and his paternal grandparents, Robert R. and Alma (Perez) Gill, all of Biloxi. He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Margo" (Palmer) Gill; daughter, Tara and husband Mike Ply; daughter, Lara Gill; his beloved granddaughter, Alana Ply, his mother, Leatrice Gill of Biloxi; and his sisters Shawn Bolender and Lela Jordan, both of Florida.
A memorial visitation celebrating his life was held on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and was attended by many friends. A private graveside service with full military honors, presided over by Rev. Mr. Daniel McAuliffe of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Mary Esther, Florida, was held at Barrancas National Cemetery on April 2, 2008.
Orin dearly loved several faithful canine companions during his life, and supported the good works of Best Friends Animal Society of Kanab, Utah. Please consider a donation made in his memory.

Jason D. Haley, 34, of Gulfport died Saturday, December 17, 2005 in Jackson, MS. Mr. Haley was a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast. He was a graduate of Gulfport High School and University of Southern Mississippi, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was Catholic and was self employeed as an insurance broker. He is preceded in death by his grandfather Bill Jacobs and grandparents Guy and Mary A. Kelly. Mr. Haley is survived by his parents Ray and Frieda Kelly of Gulfport; his sister Julia Haley of Gulfport; grandparents Eugene and Jackie Rogers of Gulfport; numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and Jack Haley. Services will be Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at 11:30 AM at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on O'Neal Road in Gulfport. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 AM.

Loftin Andrew Hall, age 20 of Clay passed away on Wednesday July 19, 2017. Loftin graduated from Clay Chalkville High School in 2014. He attended The University of Southern Mississippi. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hall Sr and his grandfather, “Ski” DeArman. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Julie Hall; one sister, Molly Hall; grandmother Ann DeArman and many aunts uncles, cousins and friends. Ridgeland - Alvin Wylie Hartzog, age 86, passed away on September 20, 2020 in Jackson, Mississippi. He was born on November 5, 1933 to Victor Hartzog and Lydia Wilson Hartzog in Pride, Louisiana. 

Alvin is survived by Two Sons, Victor Hartzog of Ridgeland, MS, Wylie Hartzog; Daughter, Elesa Hartzog; Two Sisters, Bertha Lou Thornton, Eva Dale Barlow; Four Grandchildren, Jessica Jordan Hartzog, Zachary Hartzog, Victoria Hartzog, Christian Hartzog; Great Grandchild, Olivia Maisyn Ward. 

He is preceded in death by Seven Brothers, Charles Hartzog, Ellis Hartzog, William "Bill" Hartzog, James Hartzog, Victor Hartzog, George Hartzog, Thomas "Coot" Hartzog; Two Sisters, Sarah Garner, Dama Ruth Alford. 

Visitation will be held Tuesday September 22, 2020 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, Mississippi from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Graveside service will be held Wednesday September 23, 2020 at the Silver Creek Methodist Cemetery in Silver Creek, Mississippi.


Elmer Hines “Butch” Hemphill Jr

HEMPHILL Elmer H. (Butch) Hemphill, Jr. age 68 entered eternal rest on Monday May 6, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Sandra Herbert Hemphill, his two children, Timothy A. (Meghana) and Jennifer E., and his loving pet, Beaux Brees Hemphill. He leaves behind his siblings, Joyce Smith of Pass Christian, Ms., Patricia O'Connell of St. George Island, Fl., and Jerry Hemphill of Bay St. Louis, Ms. He is predeceased by his parents, Elmer H. Hemphill, Sr. and Sarah Q. Hemphill, and his sister, Valerie Passmore. He leaves behind numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He will be remembered by his relatives and friends as a particularly caring, generous, and honest person. A native of Mississippi, Mr. Hemphill has resided in Metairie for the past forty years. He was in Biloxi High class of 1962, graduated from USM in Hattiesburg, Ms., was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and later was an Air National Guard. Mr. Hemphill was employed by Whitney National Bank for forty years, where he served as Senior Vice President until his retirement in 2007. Mr. Hemphill was a long term member of the board of the Louisiana Museum Foundation. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home (5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, NOLA 70124) on Thursday, May 9 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow for immediate family members. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and staff who served Mr. Hemphill over the past three years, and especially for the excellent care and services rendered by St. Joseph Hospice and St. Teresa's Hospice during his final days. Markal Anthony Hendricks, 56, of Hattiesburg, passed away unexpectedly on January 17, 2015. He was born on October 10, 1958, in New Orleans, LA. Markal graduated from USM and was also a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Markal is preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Joy Hendricks. He is survived by his loving sister, Etoile Jenkins (Bo); two nieces: Cindy Dickinson (Tracy) and Kerrie Owen; two great nieces, Mallory and Sadie Dickinson; one great nephew, Dylan Owen.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Little Black Creek Baptist Church.
